K-drama fans have a new reason to be excited. One of the most anticipated Korean horror projects of 2026 has officially undergone a major transformation. The upcoming sci-fi horror thriller starring Jung Chae-yeon and Jung Gun-joo is no longer titled M: Reboot. The series has now been officially renamed M: Mixed Twins as it moves forward as a TVING Original production.

The unexpected title change has quickly become a hot topic among fans, especially because the drama is connected to one of Korea’s most legendary horror television series. With a fresh identity, a talented cast, and an experienced creative team behind it, M: Mixed Twins is already shaping up to be one of the most talked-about Korean dramas of the year.

Why Was ‘M: Reboot’ Renamed?

According to industry reports, the project was originally being developed under the title M: Reboot and was linked to a potential MBC broadcast. However, after the drama shifted to TVING as an exclusive original series, the production team introduced a new title: M: Mixed Twins.

The new name reflects the drama’s updated direction while maintaining its connection to the iconic 1994 MBC horror miniseries M. The platform change also gives the creators more flexibility to modernize the story for today’s streaming audience.

A Modern Reimagining of a Korean Horror Classic

The original M remains one of the most influential horror dramas in Korean television history. Airing in 1994, the 10-episode miniseries became a cultural phenomenon and achieved an impressive peak rating of 52.2%.

The drama was particularly remembered for its eerie atmosphere, psychological tension, and unforgettable lead performance by Shim Eun-ha. Her haunting portrayal became one of the defining moments of Korean television during the 1990s.

Now, M: Mixed Twins aims to honor that legacy while introducing a fresh sci-fi horror mystery designed for modern viewers.

Jung Chae-yeon Takes on a Challenging New Role

One of the biggest reasons for the growing anticipation is the casting of Jung Chae-yeon in the lead role.

Known for her performances in romance and action projects, Jung Chae-yeon is now stepping into a darker and more intense genre. Many fans are eager to see how she handles a full-scale horror lead role, especially considering the high expectations associated with the original series.

She will star alongside Jung Gun-joo, creating a promising on-screen pairing that could bring emotional depth and suspense to the story.

A Strong Creative Team Behind the Scenes

The production team behind M: Mixed Twins includes several respected names in Korean entertainment.

Director Im Dae-woong, known for his expertise in horror storytelling, previously worked on acclaimed projects such as Teacher’s Grace and Horror Stories.

The screenplay is being written by Hong Eun-mi and Lee Jung-eun, who have earned praise for their work on Missing: The Lost Woman and Hidden Face.

Production is being handled by Big Ocean ENM, the studio behind successful titles including Chaebol X Detective and The Year We Were Together.

This combination of experienced creators has raised expectations for a suspenseful and visually striking thriller.

Why ‘M: Mixed Twins’ Could Be TVING’s Next Big Hit

The popularity of horror and thriller content on Korean streaming platforms continues to grow rapidly. Audiences are increasingly drawn to darker stories featuring psychological twists, supernatural mysteries, and high-stakes suspense.

With its intriguing twin-related mystery, sci-fi elements, and connection to a beloved classic, M: Mixed Twins has many ingredients needed for breakout success.

The move to TVING could also help the drama reach a wider international audience, giving global K-drama fans easier access to the series when it premieres.

Release Date and Final Thoughts

M: Mixed Twins is currently scheduled for release later in 2026 as a TVING Original series. While specific plot details remain under wraps, excitement continues to build as fans wait for teasers, character posters, and the first official trailer.

The combination of Jung Chae-yeon, Jung Gun-joo, an accomplished horror director, and the legacy of the original M makes this one of the most intriguing Korean drama releases on the horizon.

If the series successfully balances nostalgia with fresh storytelling, M: Mixed Twins could become one of the standout sci-fi horror dramas of 2026.
