A new K-drama has grabbed the industry by the collar and refused to let go. Agent Kim Reactivated has become the drama everyone is talking about after delivering a stunning ratings jump that most shows only dream of. Just two episodes into its run, the SBS revenge action thriller has reportedly soared to 15.7% nationwide, making it the fastest drama across all channels in five years to cross the 15% mark.

For a television landscape where audiences are split between streaming platforms, short-form clips, and endless viewing options, that kind of early momentum is more than impressive. It is a statement. Agent Kim Reactivated is not just another action series. It is quickly becoming one of the defining K-drama events of 2026.

A Record-Breaking Start That Has the Industry Watching

The numbers tell the story clearly. Agent Kim Reactivated opened strong with 9.5% nationwide ratings and 9.8% in Seoul, already placing it among the year’s most powerful miniseries premieres. But Episode 2 changed everything.

With a massive leap to 15.7% nationwide and 15.9% in Seoul, the drama claimed the top spot among SBS dramas in 2026 and became a weekly chart dominator. Even more important, it captured attention in the key 20-49 viewer demographic, a crucial sign that the show is not only pulling traditional TV audiences but also connecting with younger viewers.

That rare combination explains why the buzz around Agent Kim Reactivated feels so big so fast.

The Story: A Father Forced Back Into the Shadows

At the center of Agent Kim Reactivated is Kim Do-hyeon, a former elite covert operative once known by the chilling identity “Codename 66.” After years of operating between dangerous political and military worlds, he leaves that life behind to honor his late wife’s wish for a quiet, normal family.

Now, he lives as a single father and savings bank employee, trying to protect his daughter Min-ji from the violence he once knew too well. But when Min-ji is kidnapped, the peaceful life he built collapses in an instant.

What follows is a brutal, emotional rescue mission that pulls Kim Do-hyeon back into a world filled with espionage, corruption, government secrets, construction tycoons, and North Korean operatives. The hook is simple but powerful: a father with a deadly past will do anything to save his child.

So Ji-sub Delivers the Kind of Performance Fans Were Waiting For

A major reason Agent Kim Reactivated is resonating so deeply is So Ji-sub. The veteran actor brings both quiet emotional weight and explosive physical intensity to Kim Do-hyeon, making the character feel dangerous without losing his humanity.

In one moment, he is a tired father carrying years of grief. In the next, he becomes a precise and terrifying operative whose old instincts return with frightening speed. That contrast gives the drama its emotional engine. Viewers are not only watching for the fights; they are watching because every punch, chase, and confrontation is tied to a father’s desperation.

The “Ex-Agent Dads” Add Heart, Humor, and Brotherhood

While So Ji-sub anchors the story, Agent Kim Reactivated benefits from a strong supporting ensemble. Choi Dae-hoon plays Seong Han-su, a taekwondo gold medalist and former agent who now runs a children’s martial arts dojo. Yoon Kyung-ho appears as Park Jin-cheol, an ex-Marine with a fierce reputation. The cast also includes names such as Joo Sang-wook, Son Na-eun, and Kim Sung-kyu, adding more layers of tension and chemistry.

The teamwork among the former agents has quickly become one of the drama’s biggest strengths. Their bromance offers brief flashes of warmth and humor without weakening the intensity of the story. In fact, those human moments make the danger feel even sharper.

Why Agent Kim Reactivated Is More Than a “Taken”-Style Thriller

Adapted from the popular Naver webtoon Manager Kim, Agent Kim Reactivated carries the built-in appeal of a fan-favorite source material while expanding the story for television. Some viewers may notice similarities to global revenge thrillers like Taken, but this drama adds a distinctly Korean emotional texture.

The series leans into themes of parenthood, sacrifice, loyalty, and the cost of burying a violent past. Its action scenes feel raw and desperate rather than glossy, giving each fight a sense of urgency. At the same time, the father-daughter bond keeps the story grounded.

Agent Kim Reactivated Could Define 2026 K-Drama Success

With record-breaking ratings, strong word-of-mouth, gripping action, and a deeply relatable emotional core, Agent Kim Reactivated has all the ingredients of a major 2026 hit. Its 10-episode Friday-Saturday run is already building serious momentum, and if the story continues at this pace, the drama could climb even higher.

For viewers looking for a Korean action thriller with heart, rage, mystery, and unforgettable star power, Agent Kim Reactivated is the one to watch. So Ji-sub has returned with a role built for impact, and the ratings prove audiences are fully invested.
