A cold chaebol, an indie-band vocalist, and a love story built around emotional distance — The Boss’s Explicit Taste already has the kind of premise that makes romance drama fans pay attention. But the biggest reason for the growing buzz is Sung Hoon, who is reportedly in talks to take the male lead role after a three-year gap from full-fledged romantic leading roles.

According to reports, Sung Hoon has been offered the role of Kwon Do-hyuk in The Boss’s Explicit Taste, also known as My Boss’ Explicit Taste. If confirmed, the drama would mark a major romantic comeback for the actor, who has long been loved for his confident screen presence, polished visuals, and natural chemistry in romance-driven stories.

What Is The Boss’s Explicit Taste About?

The Boss’s Explicit Taste is based on a popular Naver web novel and webtoon by author Chic. The story follows Kwon Do-hyuk, a wealthy and powerful chaebol who seems to have everything on the outside but struggles to form real emotional connections.

Do-hyuk is not written as a typical romantic hero. He is described as someone who relies on information, patterns, and logic more than trust, curiosity, or empathy. His carefully controlled world begins to shift when he becomes connected to Lee Eun-chae, the passionate vocalist of an indie band.

The romance begins with Do-hyuk’s search for “Her,” sparked by a mysterious emotional trigger hidden within an indie album. That detail gives The Boss’s Explicit Taste a fresh hook, blending classic chaebol romance with music, longing, and self-discovery.

Why Sung Hoon Feels Like the Right Fit

Sung Hoon has built much of his career on roles that balance cool confidence with hidden vulnerability. That makes Kwon Do-hyuk an especially interesting part for him. The character appears distant, calculated, and difficult to read, but the heart of the story depends on whether he can slowly open himself to genuine feeling.

For longtime viewers, this is exactly the kind of role where Sung Hoon can shine. He has proven his romantic appeal in dramas such as Passionate Love, Oh My Venus, My Secret Romance, and Level Up. His performances often work best when he plays men who appear guarded at first but gradually reveal sincerity, warmth, and emotional depth.

That same quality could make The Boss’s Explicit Taste a strong return to the genre fans most closely associate with him.

From Swimmer to Romance Favorite

Before becoming a familiar face in Korean dramas, Sung Hoon was a competitive swimmer. He made his acting debut in 2011 with New Story of Gisaeng, quickly gaining attention for his tall frame, striking presence, and charisma.

Over the years, he expanded his image through romantic dramas, family-centered stories, and variety shows. His appearance on I Live Alone from 2018 to 2022 helped viewers see a more relaxed and relatable side of him, while later appearances on programs such as Omniscient Interfering View reminded fans of his easygoing personality.

Although he recently appeared in the short-form drama Watch Out! I Am Lady Boss, many fans have been waiting for a bigger romance project where he can fully lead the story again. The Boss’s Explicit Taste may be that long-awaited opportunity.

A Webtoon Romance With Strong Creative Backing

Another reason The Boss’s Explicit Taste is gaining attention is its production team. The drama is reportedly directed by Kang Sol, known for Delivery Man! and We’ll Travel for You. The script is written by Nam Ji-yeon, who worked on Our Home.

With production already underway and a broadcast target later this year, the drama has the foundation of a polished romance series. Its webtoon background also gives it built-in appeal, especially among viewers who enjoy stylish storytelling, emotionally charged character dynamics, and familiar tropes with a modern update.

Why Fans Are Excited About The Boss’s Explicit Taste

The biggest attraction is the contrast between the leads. Kwon Do-hyuk is controlled, wealthy, and emotionally detached. Lee Eun-chae is connected to music, passion, and artistic expression. That difference creates the perfect setup for tension, growth, and romantic chemistry.

For Sung Hoon, The Boss’s Explicit Taste could also reintroduce him as a leading man in the romance space. Rather than simply repeating old chaebol drama formulas, the series appears ready to explore why someone who has everything materially may still feel emotionally empty.

If the drama handles that idea well, it could become more than a glossy love story. It could be a romance about learning how to feel, trust, and connect in a world that often rewards control over vulnerability.

As anticipation grows, The Boss’s Explicit Taste is already becoming one of the most talked-about romance drama updates of 2026. For fans of Sung Hoon, webtoon adaptations, chaebol love stories, and music-themed romance, this upcoming series is definitely one to watch.
