The intense emotional journey of Phantom Lawyer continues in Episode 11, where long-buried secrets finally surface, and the past and present collide in a powerful way. The episode kicks off in I Rang office, where the ghost of Dong Sik appears. Despite I Rang attempts to communicate, Dong Sik remains confused, asking, “Who are you?” Na Yeon is concerned by this lack of memory, but the mystery deepens when Jeong Yi arrives. She is confronted about the secret will she wrote, and with a heavy heart, she apologizes and explains her motivations, leading us into a poignant flashback.
Years ago, Jeong Yi harbored feelings for Dong Sik. She recalls seeing him meticulously crafting a pair of beautiful red shoes, and for a moment, she hoped they were for her. Her heart broke when she realized they were intended for Seona. Consumed by jealousy and heartbreak, she vented her frustrations to a police officer at a bar, mentioning that Dong Sik’s son was from North Korea—a tip-off that eventually led to Seona’s arrest. This revelation clarifies the immense guilt Jeong Yi has been carrying for decades. She also mentions a mysterious letter left at a grave signed by “Jeong Yi, Thank You,” leading her to believe that Seona might actually still be alive.
While Na Yeon believes finding someone based on a decades-old slip of paper is nearly impossible, I Rang remains determined. Meanwhile, tensions rise between Jun and Do Kyung. Jun is furious that Do Kyung hid the fact that his mother’s report led to Seona’s death in prison. Despite Do Kyung attempts to keep things professional and settle for money, Jun insists on speaking with his mother first. Na Yeon later meets with Do Kyung to discuss a 10% settlement, but he dismisses her, even trying to recruit her to his firm by warning her that I Rang is “dangerous.” Na Yeon, however, firmly states her preference for working alongside the eccentric lawyer.
I Rang and Na Yeon dive into the investigation, seeking the public defender who represented Seona years ago. With the help of the Bar Association and social media, they track down the former lawyer. This leads them to a nursing home where they learn a shocking truth about a prison fire. While the record states Seona died, another inmate named So Young survived but required extensive surgery. I Rang begins to suspect that “So Young” is actually Seona, who may have swapped identities during the chaos of the fire to survive.
The trail leads them to a local restaurant owner who they previously met while visiting Yun Seong. With Dong Sik’s spiritual guidance, they realize the woman they thought was a stranger is actually the missing Seona. Sensing people are looking for her, Seona attempts to flee, but Na Yeon manages to intercept her. In a moving conversation, Na Yeon reveals Jeong Yi’s decades of regret and the fact that she even tried to secure an inheritance for Seona’s son.
This honesty breaks through Seona’s defenses. She finally agrees to meet Jeong Yi. The reunion is tearful; Jeong Yi begs for forgiveness for her past betrayal, but Seona offers a surprising comfort. She reveals that the police had been suspicious of her for a long time, and she would have been arrested eventually regardless of Jeong Yi’s tip. This grace allows Jeong Yi to finally begin shedding the weight of her guilt.
As the truth comes to light, other relationships begin to heal. Jun decides to move past the settlement and instead proposes that his company work with Yun Seong, recognizing his incredible skill with leather. In a bittersweet scene, Yun Seong eats at Seona’s restaurant. He remarks that her cooking reminds him of his mother, and she replies that he reminds her of the son she lost. Though they share a deep, unspoken connection, Seona chooses not to reveal her true identity just yet, preferring to let their bond grow naturally over shared meals and stories.

Finally, I Rang, Na Yeon, Jeong Yi, and Seona gather at Dong Sik’s grave. Jeong Yi brings the red shoes, offering them to Seona, but Seona refuses. She reveals that Dong Sik was actually making those shoes for Jeong Yi all along—he only sought Seona’s help with the design. This final piece of the puzzle brings a sense of peace to Jeong Yi as she finally puts on the shoes her husband made for her.
Dong Sik, his mission complete and his heart full of love for Jeong Yi, prepares to depart. He thanks I Rang for his help, and I Rang sends a message to Matthew to perform the final ritual to release the spirit. As Dong Sik fades away, I Rang and Na Yeon walk together. Inspired by the day’s events, I Rang decides to finally express his feelings for Na Yeon. However, just as he is about to speak, he is possessed by a new, playful spirit—a child ghost who immediately runs off to play with a nearby puppy. The romantic moment is hilariously cut short, leaving us eager for Episode 12!
