Whenever Lee Min-ho signs onto a new project, the global entertainment industry pays close attention. Nearly two years after concluding his journey in the sci-fi romance Ask the Stars, the Hallyu superstar is ready to trade deep space for corporate boardrooms—and digital avatars. In a thrilling development that has taken social media by storm, Lee is currently in final talks to headline Virtual Love (working title: But Your Love), a sharp, 12-episode romantic comedy slated to begin filming later this year. By merging high-stakes office politics with the booming phenomenon of virtual idols, this series promises a high-energy, refreshing departure from conventional workplace dramas.

A Double Life Drama: When the Office Tyrant Becomes a Virtual Idol

At the center of Virtual Love is a clever, modern spin on the secret identity trope. The story follows an overworked office employee who survives daily workplace stress by finding solace and motivation in a charismatic member of a virtual idol group. Little does the employee realize that behind the digital avatar is none other than their intimidating real-life superior.

Lee Min-ho has received a strong offer to play Cha Wook-hyun, the General Director of a leading game development company. On paper, Wook-hyun is the definition of perfection—strikingly handsome, highly capable, and fiercely successful. In reality, however, his cold, uncompromising, and perfectionist demeanor has earned him the feared reputation of being the worst boss in the building. Through an unexpected chain of events, Wook-hyun ends up debuting as a virtual idol, thrusting him into a precarious and chaotic double life where professional boundaries and budding romantic feelings collide.

Why ‘Virtual Love’ Highlights Lee Min-ho’s Unmatched Versatility

For long-time supporters of Lee Min-ho, Virtual Love offers a wonderful opportunity to see the actor step into a lighter, more playful environment. While he is celebrated worldwide for his commanding presence in epic dramas and intense character studies, this project allows him to flex his comedic timing alongside his signature leading-man charm. Watching a notoriously cold corporate perfectionist awkwardly navigate the high-energy world of virtual idol culture promises plenty of laugh-out-loud moments.

Behind the scenes, Virtual Love is in capable hands. The drama will be directed by Jang Young-seok, known for helming the acclaimed series Try: Miracles. Production teams are currently casting the female lead and key supporting characters, with filming scheduled to begin within 2026. The concise 12-episode format also ensures a fast-paced, engaging narrative without unnecessary filler.

A Powerhouse Comeback: Lee Min-ho’s Busy Schedule for 2026

The anticipation surrounding Virtual Love comes during an already monumental career year for Lee Min-ho. While audiences await production schedules for the rom-com, the actor is gearing up for a major big-screen appearance. His upcoming thriller film, Assassin(s), is set to hit theaters in September 2026.

In the historical thriller, Lee Min-ho delivers a dramatic acting transformation as a rookie reporter investigating the chaotic assassination of the First Lady during the 1974 Liberation Day ceremony, starring alongside veteran actors Yoo Hae-jin and Park Hae-il. Balancing a gritty historical thriller on the big screen with a lighthearted workplace romantic comedy on television demonstrates an incredible range, solidifying 2026 as a landmark comeback year for the superstar.

Why ‘Virtual Love’ Could Be the Standout Comedy of the Season

As television studios increasingly look for innovative ways to refresh familiar storytelling structures, Virtual Love stands out as a bold, creative experiment. Pairing the high-pressure environment of South Korean gaming corporations with the colorful, anonymous world of virtual pop stars creates endless possibilities for comedy, tension, and romance.

With Jang Young-seok directing and Lee Min-ho bringing his undeniable charisma to the forefront, this 12-episode gem is positioned to be a major crowd-pleaser. As casting for the female lead enters its final stages, excitement continues to build across online forums and social media. One thing is certain: when Wook-hyun’s digital secret is finally exposed, viewers are in for a televised ride they will not soon forget.
